How "boring" is actually Serie A?

The Italian league has always been viewed negatively or criticized for being boring and having little action. But why is that? How can three out of four teams that reached the Champions League last year be Italian teams, if it's that bad?

In the last 70 years, Serie A has been a league where few goals were scored, especially compared to the other top five leagues in Europe. The counter-attacking style and the best defenders in the world are two of the reasons why Serie A saw so few goals being scored. But in recent years that has changed, and there have never been so many goals scored in Italy. For the third season in a row, the Italian league has averaged more than three goals per game. They also have many young, talented attackers, such as Kvaratskhelia, Osimhen, and Rafael Leao. If it was so boring, these talented players would not be there anymore, as they would "waste" their careers - as many people think. In the last four years, four different clubs have won Serie A, and this year the field is wide open again: seven clubs can win the title.

Serie A has definitely become way less defensive over the last years, and for the majority of the last seasons, the Italian league has averaged more goals per match than any other of the top 5 leagues. In addition to that, there were also three teams reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League last year, with Fiorentina also being in the final of the Conference League. It is massively underrated, and if they can improve on things like for example stadiums, racism, and marketing of the league, it can become the best league in Europe again anytime soon.

Serie A isn't boring or uncompetitive. It has been the league with the most teams that have gone the furthest in European competitions, it has seven different teams that can win the league, and it sees more goals than any of the other top 5 leagues. So if you think Serie A is boring, you just haven't watched the league, because the stats prove otherwise.
